The Melville Comedy Club officially opened its doors on 31 January 2019 with a show featuring Nicholas Goliath, Loyiso Madinga, Tats Nkonzo, Shanray van Wyk and Yusuf Cassim.
With a traditional, 65-seat, theatre-style venue for stand-up comedy and other forms of art, the Melville Comedy Club caters for all the different spheres of performance art.
Located at Melville’s 1, 7th Street (opposite La Santa Muerte), the venture is championed by Goliath and Goliath. What’s great about the venue is that it’s located in the Melville Yard, which is an awesome collective comprising of Spilt Milk, Ba Pita, La Petite Maison and the Melville Comedy Club. It is in the hub of Melville, which is great for celebrating birthdays and other special occasions – so you get to enjoy good food, drinks and comedy in one vicinity!
The Melville Comedy Club, together with award-winning filmmaker John Barker, celebrates South African filmmaking every last Tuesday of the month at the venue. These sessions comprise primarily of table readings, discussions and film/pilot screenings for everyone to enjoy!
